So another year’s come around, and it’s time to set our New Year’s Resolutions again. I have several things I’d like to achieve, and I’d like to put some down in writing on here to see how well I manage.

The Goals

1. Know, Everything

  • I’ve always loved being a generalist. I’m not sure it’s the best approach in the world but I would rather have surface-to-mid level knowledge on a plethora of topics than be specialized in just 2-3. Because I can find the bits I’m missing through good research and help from my peers. For this year, I’d like more of that. To the best of my ability, I’d like to learn, document, and try everything - whether that’s new technologies, philosophy, artistic, or otherwise.

2. Life First.

  • I’m currently working in Japan. It may come as no surprise that I’ve been feeling stressed, overworked, and generally dissatisfied with the work-life balance at my position recently. A lot of people say that when it’s this early in your career, you should just suck it up and do it rather than get into altercations or form a bad rep. But my life is going to pass me by while I wait to reach the right level of experience to start setting my boundaries, so I’m starting now. 40-42 hours of work a week, no more.

Wish me luck!
