I’ve always loved being a consumer of photography and videography and photography online through social media such as YouTube and Instagram. I’ve even attempted to take on a lot of it myself, watching cinematic color grading tutorials, and buying an iPhone with my first stipend money to be able to record 4K videos, and upload them to a YouTube channel. But if I’m being honest, I’ve never been exceptionally good at any of it.

Nevertheless, I still regularly consume creative content of that sort, and recently I ended up picking up an old Canon T3/EOS 1100D that my girlfriend no longer uses, becoming my first ever SLR camera. And man, am I geeked about it. I immediately started watching videos on the exposure triangle and composition the night I got it, and I unironically look forward to going places on the weekends with no purpose other than to find interesting scenes to shoot.

And while finally owning an SLR camera for myself has no doubt spurred my whole current interest in learning photography, I do have to give massive credit and appreciation to one man - James Popsys. I stumbled upon James’ channel while watching videos about composition, and I mean it entirely when I say that he’s become one of my favorite YouTubers, period - and not specifically just for photography either.

His videos are the equivalent of a cup of hot chocolate by the fireside in the winter for me, and so I’d really recommend anyone even vaguely interested to check him out. I’ll link one of my favorite videos of his below. That’s all for this note, see you again soon!
